The aerospace engineering in Texas A&M has a vast field of exploration leading to advance technology in space exploration, air transportation, national defense, communication and sustainable energy. The student speaker in the video was proud of their field and were satisfied with the job. Everybody wants a job that makes them happy and that is exciting and enjoyable. The advance technology studies in aerospace engineering are an interesting filed as the technologyis growing day by day and more advance technology will be develop and astound the world. However, this issue does not deter me in any way; in fact, it serves as quite the catalyst. My passion for engineering inspires me to promote this field. Through my actions in high school, I have encouraged many young women to explore careers in STEM. Through my mentoring of fourth grade girls, I excite them to pursue their interests in math and science.
Many American schools have transitioned their curriculum from a combination of ELA (English, Language Arts) and STEM to primarily STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math). Many have taken different stances on this educational transition, including groups that believe only ELA, only STEM, or a combination of both STEM and ELA should be the curriculum in all American schools. There is a plethora of pros and cons for each style of education, and differences are immense. Many believe that kids should primarily learn STEM in high school because many jobs are centered around STEM topics. Students also struggle most with science, technology, engineering, and math more often than they struggle with english and language arts.
Educators should remember that topics in the STEM field are interconnected. A mathematical topic may align with the properties of matter in science, or conducting a scientific experiment may require technological skills to analyze and interpret data and statistics. Constant lobbying for more STEM education at the expense of the humanities is prevalent in modern education. However, as STEM becomes more predominant, the weakening of humanities subjects is causing a decline in technological innovation. In the article “STEM Education Is Vital—But Not at the Expense of the Humanities” published by Scientific American, the ambiguous authors, known collectively as The Editors, use references to figures of authority, strong word choice, and a zealous tone to explain to the educated discourse community why liberal arts is an essential part of STEM education. In this article, the authors are trying to convince the audience of tech students of the importance of humanities in combination with a STEM education.
Being a part of the STEM early college program will give me the opportunity to test my limits and learn things that will ultimately help me succeed in the future. My goal is to take in the knowledge of STEM and apply it to real life, like my career. Attending this school is a big step that I know will be difficult but I am sure that I will adapt quickly to the learning environment. I’m choosing to apply to the STEM early college because I am very interested in taking advantage of the various opportunities that help students gain real world experience. I know that being accepted into this early college will significantly help the knowledge of what I want to achieve in engineering.
These scientists and engineers believe that STEM education helps bridge the ethnic and gender gaps that are sometimes found in the math and science fields (Why is STEM education so important). While it is true that STEM helps bridge these gaps, there are still children left behind, kids that aren’t interested in those fields. The arts, however, encompass all of these students, which truly bridges the educational gaps found today. People also believe that, “STEM is important because it pervades every part of our lives” (Why is STEM education so important). Yes, STEM is integral to students daily lives, but a lot of what you learn in STEM classes are also learned in arts classes.
Ward states that “having a STEM education is definitely essential for students, but what role does it continue to play in students’ lives after they graduate and move onto becoming an adult?” The arts offer a way for students to develop necessary social skills that STEM does not offer. In the arts, one can collaborate with others. Ward argues that the arts are often undervalued in schools and are at risk of being cut from curricula due to budget constraints. This just goes to show schools budgets are so focused on STEM-related areas that schools cannot even afford to allow their students to receive an arts education.
