In the play “The Crucible” the play takes place in 1692 in a town of Salem Massachusetts. The Crucible is about the Salem witch trials. The Main Characters are John Proctor his wife Elizebeth Proctor, the minister Reverend Parris and Abigail. It begins with the minister Reverend Parris catching a group of girls including his niece Abigail Williams dancing in the woods practicing witchcraft. In this play we find out that Abigail had an affair with Elizabeth's husband John Proctor but we wonder who's most at fault. In Act 1 Abigail has just been caught by her uncle dancing in the woods she tells her friends to not tell anyone they were practicing witchcraft or else she would murder them. (Abigail 22) John reacts with a faint smile Abigail then tells John she was dancing in the woods last night and John's smile widens which is the reaction Abigail wants so she tells him “Give me a word, John. A soft word” but John doesn't give her the reply she wants “ No no, Abby. That's done with” (John 23) Just this interaction makes us believe that Abigail is most at fault in this affair because John is trying to get her to stop and tell her it's over but yet she keeps on trying to get to him. “You come five miles to see a silly girl fly? I know you better.” (Abigail 23) “I come to see what mischief your uncle brewin’ now.
