In James Hurst’s short story “The Scarlet Ibis,” the narrator’s bitter and petulant behavior towards Doodle’s life contrasts with his penitent emotions regarding Doodle’s inevitable death and constructs the irony between the substantial differences of the narrator’s point of view.
