Nathaniel Hawthorne’s The Scarlet Letter is commonly regarded as a literary masterpiece due to how the author tackles many issues and themes with incredible skill and proficiency of literary devices. The story is about a female named Hester Prynne who was forced to wear a scarlet letter as punishment for committing the sin of Adultery. One of the more interesting themes in the story is Puritanism. However, the contrast of Puritanism present in nature plays a very important, yet subtle role in the novel.
