The tittle of the book is The Scorch Trials. The reason this novel is named so, is because of when Thomas and his friends run away from the Maze, a rebel group that is against the group named WICKED, rescues them. But some time passes and WICKED breaks in and captures Teresa. A man tells the boys that they need to go through the Flat Trans, the Scorch, and reach the safe haven within two weeks. This time frame put on the boys explains the title The Scorch Trials.
The boys pass through the Flat Trans. This area is like a portal that is very treacherous, a couple of boys die due to some obstacles that were put to the test. Once they get out of this area they face the Scorch. The Scorch is treacherous and is extremely hot, but to pass through the Scorch they have to go through a city and pass a mountain range. WICKED and the Rebels are against each other, and have different ways of looking at the situation. The reason for these conflicts aren’t very clear, but WICKED uses the Rebels as subjects and doesn’t care what happen. WICKED uses some mind control on some of the rebels and briefly turns them against each other.
Thomas is the main character in the book. Thomas is the leader of the rebel of the rebel group. He should courage and guidance through the novel. He is very caring and worries about his friends. “Yeah. I cant quit worrying about my other friends. I just hate it so bad that we were separated” (35.202). He wants to save Teresa, and leads his friends through the treacherous Scorch. He really doesn’t like WICKED and knows they are out to get him. So he relates to most of his other friends who are against WICKED also. Thomas in this story is a Protagonist.
“The rain fell in torrents, like God had sucked up the ocean and spit it out over their heads in Fury” (25.139). This is a Simile. It is a simile for how hard the rain
