Everything Comes From Something in “The Sea Of Monsters” In “The Sea of Monsters” Rick Riordan the author explores different families, and how knowing who your parents are can affect the way you live. We are seeing this in many different ways throughout the book. From the daughter of the war God who is prideful, aggressive and angry. To the son of the messenger God who is resentful and acrid. These relationships while not imperative to the story still play an important role in understating the Characters and their motivations. Learning of our lineage may help us understand ourselves better than we think we already do. The story gives us examples of this as parent child relationships, and the experiences gained during our younger years from those around us. In “The Sea of Monsters”, one of the relationships we learn about is the fact that Chiron, the camp activities director, a strong willed man; also the son of Kronos the evil titan lord. Learning this explains why when the tree that generates a protective force field around the camp is poisoned Chiron is blamed. The relationship between Percy the main protagonist, and his half-brother Tyson is one of the most important in the book. Tyson is also the son of Poseidon, although, unlike Percy, he is not half human.Percy doesn’t know that they are related at first and when he finds out he denies being anything like his Cyclops half-brother. This shows that just because two people come from the same place they won’t always be similar, they might even find each other gross and repulsive.
