Journey and quests are known for traveling from one place to another. In other ways, a journey is known to have perspective on different types of emotions. It’s the process of changing and developing over a period of time throughout the characters in writing or storytelling. Most best-selling novels require some meaning of journey throughout the author’s writing. One of the best examples would be “The Secret Life of Bees” by Sue Monk Kidd. In this novel, the main characters, Lily and Rosaleen, escape from home facing and overcoming multiple obstacles. From the knowledge they’ve obtained from overcoming these challenging obstacles, Lily and Rosaleen finally came to terms to acquire peace in the new and safe environment they are now settled in. You can feel the emotions they feel because it’s centralized on the main character rather than multiple characters. The concept of a journey makes the story more powerful because it has a huge effect on the audience as a whole dealing with obstacles and how characters overcome the challenges they face. In the novel, “Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close,” three of the main characters express a journey in some different way from one another. The most important example of journey would be how Oskar partaking this quest to find the lock that fits the key he’d found in his father’s closet. As Oskar roams through the city, he experiences both a physical and mental exploration. However, by learning to get over his fears of strangers, jam- packed places, and the fear of heights, Oskar also experiences an emotional expedition, one that helps him deal with the sadness and misery he’s feeling inside. He moves past this phase by grasping onto what he’s getting from the outside world. The world that he’s not used to.
