The Not so Secret Life of Emily Brontë “I am now quite cured of seeking pleasure in society, be it country or town. A sensible man ought to find sufficient company in himself.”- Emily Brontë. These words from Emily Brontë perfectly describe how our generations should think. She states how you should not care what society thinks of you. Do not be a person that does things they do not like just to please others. You should be your own person and if no one appreciates the real you then the only person you need is you. The life of Emily Brontë was not spectacular or extravagant. She came from a household filled with siblings, a father, an aunt, and no mother. She was born on July 1818 and died on December 1848. I think that she suffered a lot in her life and that deserved better. Her whole family deserved better. She was very reserved around those she did not know and she would not like the same things other women of her age did. This reminds me a lot of myself. I tend to be very quiet around those I do not know. I feel as if I can connect with her and how she must have felt. Coincidentally, she passed away the same date I was born, December 19. She was of course living in the 1800s and I was born in the 1900s, so it is not near as close. But after I found out when she passed and I did more and more research on her it got me more interested in her. It had me thinking of what she would do in her spare time. Did she smile a lot? You control who you are. You were born in this world to be independent; to be able to fend for yourself and in order to do that, you cannot let others command you. You are your own person and you should be proud of that. Emily Bronte was a lot like that. She believed in herself and she did what she wanted to do. She went and taught in law Hill school, she learned foreign languages, and she wrote her own book and poems. She is an incredibly brave woman who suffered one too many times. She deserved better than anything she got. My goal was to speak of her past, explain the reviews she received for Wuthering Heights, and give an insight of my own opinions. I believe I did just that. She was an incredible woman and I hope others can see that
