The Secret Life of Walter Mitty Movie Review The major motion picture The Secret Life of Walter Mitty, starred in and directed by Ben Stiller is a perfect example of a daydream and the original short story by James Thurber. The picture follows the life of inattentive Walter Mitty who works as a negative assets manager behind the magazine LIFE. To escape from his monotonous day to day life, Walter escapes to an internal dream world, where he is not only a hero but has the girl of his dreams. Everything that Walter has ever known is shaken when he is given the chance to rise above who he once was and becomes who he dreams to be. Set in modern day New york we see the life that Mitty has, but as plot develops, we go on to travel through the unimaginable yet realistic portion of the film which is the journey to the new. Walter. Traveling through Greenland, Iceland and Los Angeles, all in the span of a few short days, this change in location subserves the initial and above objective that Mitty lives in a dream world yet he everything around him is actually happening To add to the fascinating story line is the stunning and creative cinematography. From the early onset of the film, the cinematography is unique and used to show how little Mitty affects the world around him. With the numerous panoramic and broad aerial shots it is very easy to get captivated into the stunning scenery around Walter and show how insignificant he is to the real world or the “bigger picture”. The unique use of the tracking shots while Walter is skateboarding is such a breathtaking sequence that you feel his desperation and need to complete his goal. It seems that throughout all of the long and ambient shots we see the objective, the adventure and the accomplishment that is Walter Mitty’s
