The setting in Russell Ed.D. Short Story is in a city name, ''Syracuse'' that was at the time dictated and ruled by a powerful tyrant named Dionysius, who had obtained the throne for himself through treachery. Dionysius, proceeded to proclaim his authority by behaving cruelly to his, subject. And also to all strangers and enemies that was unfortunate to fall into his ‘’clutches’’ The tyrant, Dionysius, was very unjustly, that when Dionysius, had ‘’awakened from restless sleep’’ during in which he dreamt of a particular man that had attempted to murder him, and immediately he put the man to death. Is that Pythias was unjustly accused by Dionysius, of attempting to ''overthrow him'' and for this alleged ''crime of, treason'' in which what I think was a wrongful false accusation by the king Dionysius Sadly Pythias was then sentenced by the deceitful king to die for wrongful death. Since Pythias, couldn’t prove his innocence to the king Dionysius, ‘’and so all hope now is lost’’ the noble youth Pythias asked the king if he could settle his business affairs regarding his family Pythias wanted to be confident that his family would have been taking cared for following his death. Dionysius, the ‘’cold-hearted tyrant,’’ didn’t believe Pythias reassurance to return unless he left behind a hostage. Pythias needed someone that would be put to death in his place if he didn’t return as wished Pythias promptly thought of his friend Damon. When Damon arrived Pythias departed the kingdom to take care of his earthly affairs, leaving behind Damon to be held captive in a dungeon with the tyrant Dionysius. Soon after Pythias release, Dionysius asked if Damon was frightened that Pythias wouldn’t come back Damon then ''looked up at the king smiling'' this particular line is a comparison which is known as a figurative language. That showcases a figure of speech and comparing two, unlikely things that are many times, often introduced I think that in time of despair Damon kept a positive attitude as he knew Pythias wouldn't betray him upon waiting on Pythias
