The Enigma machine was a coding machine that was used by the German Military during World War 2. Many different types of the machine were built and the Navy used the most complex one. The unpredictability of the machine made it tough to crack. The key to the codes changed every day so when they finally figured out how to break the code one day, it didn't matter because the next day it would be an entirely different code.
The German military had their suspicions that the allies had cracked the Enigma code but presumed they hadn't because there were no obvious instances where information was used against them. Although it wasn't obvious, the Enigma code was cracked and slowly helped the Allies to win the war because of the small bits of information
