Could you imagine if your family was feuding with another, and you had fallen in love with another person in that family? In the original story Romeo and Juliet, the families, Montague and Capulet are feuding. Romeo and Juliet end up falling madly in love with each other and they both die because Romeo thought Juliet was dead. Juliet was only passed out from drinking out of the vial, Romeo drinks out of the vial and ends up dying. Juliet wakes up and saw he was dead then she killed herself. Although in the play Romeo and Juliet and the movie Romeo + Juliet have the same titles they are very different. There might be some similarities, but there is a lot of differences. The movie Romeo + Juliet is set in modern era of 1996. However Romeo and Juliet, the play, was set back in 1591-1596. At the Verona Beach in Romeo + Juliet they used guns and Romeo and Juliet used swords on the Verona streets of Italy. There were many characters in Romeo and Juliet but in Romeo + Juliet there were not as many as of Friar John and Peter. In Romeo and Juliet, Friar John was supposed to give Romeo a letter, but it failed. In Romeo + Juliet ,Friar John is not in the movie. Baz Luhrmann kept the Middle English in Romeo + Juliet because it would be more similar to Romeo and Juliet. Romeo and Juliet got married in both versions because they needed to have the same love story. But Baz Luhrmann changed the setting of Romeo + Juliet because it was more of a modern era, same as the guns and swords. No one is going to use swords in a fight in 1996.
