I am a Perpetrator. I oppress people that do not agree with me. Upstanders are hopeless, meaningless people to me. Before I got overthrown, I ruled above all the other citizens, enjoying rights that the other classes didn’t have. But my country didn’t like me, and they unanimously voted to overthrow me, even after I promised to make the Bystanders and Victims lives better. Now they rule as a democracy, which goes against my political philosophies. As a true intellectual, I had more philosophical knowledge than any of the Sectors, as shown in my book, Philosophy and other Nonsense. “A perfect government runs under a ruler or multiple rulers having absolute power, without respect for other classes. First, we are similar to the Reign of Terror because there were many countries around Germany that had known about the Holocaust and never even thought about helping the Jews out. Also, the Reign of Terror was very similar to our situation in Sector 1. In the historic moment of the Reign of Terror, there were two estates that acted like the Bystander, one of them was the Second Estate, and the other was the First Estate. The Second Estate was the middle of the social class system made up of nobles, and the First Estate was the top of the social hierachy which contained the clergy, or church officials. During the Reign of Terror, the Second and First Estates had completely ignored the fact that the Third Estate was suffering from starvation, extreme taxes, and unequal rights. The two situations mentioned above in Night and the Reign of Terror are very similar to our group in Sector 1 because we, the countries around Germany, and the First and Second Estates did not help the suffering and innocent
