Have you ever been shot? Being shot at is a normal thing for the people of Dublin. A revolutionary war broke out in Ireland. The Republicans of Ireland had declared war on the British forces. Liam O’Flaherty is the Sniper, he has been stationed on a rooftop in the city of Dublin and ordered to kill the British forces. The mood plays an important role in letting the reader understand and feel the character’s actions and responses. In “The Sniper” by Liam O’Flaherty, I am trying to find out how the sniper’s actions and responses set the mood in the book. The Sniper’s actions change the mood throughout the book. The mood before he lit the cigarette was grey and boring. Once the cigarette was lit, the mood immediately shifted into fear and red. This incident shows how a character’s actions can dictate the mood. The Sniper responses play an important role in the mood. If responses weren’t a thing, the mood would not shift as frequently. The Sniper had just been in an intense Sniper battle with an enemy sniper. He was trapped in the house, if he tried to leave, the sniper would just shoot him. The Sniper was tired of being trapped in the house, so he decided he was going to fight back. He shot and killed the enemy sniper.
