When reading both the Combahee River Collective and Work, Immigration, and Labor, I noticed how both display the struggles of women of color from two different communities and their efforts against oppression. The Combahee River Collective is a statement released by a group of black feminists, they viewed black feminism as a political movement that can combat the oppression that all women of color face. The generic feminist movement consists of “white, middle-class heterosexual women” (Tong 42). These women focus on their needs, and neglect the specific needs of many women of color, who are often of a lower socioeconomic standing. White feminists focus on liberating the oppressive “housewife role,” (Tong 214) and fail to even attempt to include minority women who may in fact dream of a life in which they were able to stay home with their children. White feminists “fail to realize that it is possible to oppress people by ignoring their differences” (Tong 214). This issue makes it difficult for many non-white women to relate to or desire to be a part of the feminist movement.
Race is something that is used to organize groups of people to fit within descriptions, generally based on their physical characteristics or bloodline (Conley, 2017, p. 326). This organization can be used to justify personal or societal inequalities. “We all see the world through a racial lens that colors our world black, white, Asian, Mexican, minority, or “other”. How we are seen and how we see others affects various domains of our lives and the lives of others; from the types of jobs we have, the amount of money we make, the kind of friends we make, the places we live, the foods we eat, the schools we go to, etc…”(Lusca, 2008). The essence of society is that a small number of people exploit most people in the name of the development of human civilization, and race is the most powerful political weapon for them. b. Social construction is something or an event that is a meaningful to the society, it reveals how the social is constructed and how people are participating in it. c. Money is a kind of social construction, people accept the value of money and consider them as an essential part of the society.
The framers of the United States wrote the Constitution as an alternative government to the Articles of Confederation. The constitution itself has created a fallacy of a direct democracy. The creation of the electoral college, the implement of suffrage for women and african americans, the election of senators, and the power of the judicial branch are examples of how the framework of the new government did not promote a direct democracy. The constitution does, however, create a representative, or indirect, democracy with the articles that were implemented in the creation of the new government. The Constitution does not stem from a distrust of a democracy, rather a way to supervise a free and direct democracy.

The sentencing disparity for drug use by race is disproportionate for African Americans because of The War on Drugs. Matthew Lassiter (2015) explains, “In 1951, Harry Anslinger, the commissioner of the Federal Bureau of Narcotics, collaborated with senate of criminal investigations to target black ‘dope peddlers’ who were luring pretty white blondes into drug addiction”(2015:128). Prior to finding all emerging themes, we must understand the theories that would be used in this research. Critical Race Theory (CRT) is distinguished by analyze all information from an asset base approach vs. a deficit view. I want to challenge the dominant ideology of the traditional student, what better way than by looking into the student population that would not be seen as high risk succeed in four year institution.
