In the article “Die Trying”, Katie J.M. Baker points out the difficulties of being a rape victim in Alabama and nationwide. The article “Die Trying” talks about a student named Megan Rondini who attended the University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa who accused T.J. Bunn Jr. of rape. The events that led to sexual assault happened in July 1, 2015 at night where Megan Rondini went to Innisfree Irish Pub with a couple of her sorority sisters and drank five cups of beer. After drinking the beer Megan Rondini blacked out and found herself in T.J. Bunn’s car with his friend going back to his house.
The Duke lacrosse case implicated criminal actions of: first degree rape, first degree sex offenses’ and kidnapping charges against three Duke University lacrosse players; Collin Finnerty, Reade Seligman and Dean Evans (North Carolina State Bar v. Nifong, 2007,p.18-20). According to Mosteller (2007) the case started with “gang rape allegations” by Crystal Mangum, a black exotic dancer who was also a student at North Carolina Central University on the morning of March 14th, 2006 (p.1337). Known as the Texas Tech Rapes, four women were raped from 1984 to 1985. As police searched for the rapist, Cole ran into an undercover cop on campus and told her his name and where he lived. Although not suspected to be the rapist, police ran his license plates and discovered Cole recently filed it as being robbed. Claiming to help him by investigating the robbery, police took Cole’s photo and placed it in a lineup of other mug shots.

This young woman then called her mother sobbing, so the mother went to the school immediately and figured the situation out. Not only were the police investigating the possible assault, but they were also looking at the ritual that these boys had planned for so many years (Shworm, 2015). In December 2012 a freshman reported to the Florida State University police that she had been raped by a stranger after a night of drinking at a bar. She had bruises on her body and tests would show semen on her underwear (Bogdanich, 2014). She first told police that she didn’t know who her attacker was but gave them a description. In January 10, 2013, she left a voicemail for the investigating detective that she believed that her attacker was Jameis Winston and that he was in one of her classes (Dahl, 2013).

Life, Enjoy it All In the Swimmer by Johns Cheever, the life of a man, Neddy from the suburbs, is being portrayed from being normal to loneliness and then to isolation. Suburbia is often perceived as a lifestyle where it people live in homes that look very similar, cookie cutter homes, just outside the city within commuting distance. This story shows a more defined consider the downward fall of Neddy Merrill’s life through the time travel via summer events. Going back to nice summer day, with those privileged individuals who can afford to not work and hang out by the pool yapping away about having “drank too much” (Norton, p.2363).
Life experience has taught me that perseverance is integral to keep a community progressing towards its goals. Perseverance is at my very core. My life has been dominated by competitive swimming for the last fourteen years, filled by long, hard, lonely practices for two to three hours at a time. Looking at the same straight black line at the bottom of the pool, except for an occasional reprieve to look at the ceiling when doing backstroke. What sane person would subject themselves to what appears to be torture?
