The 16th president of our great nation is one of the best presidents to ever serve our country and in the autobiography “The Statesmanship of Abraham Lincoln” by Olivia E. Coolidge, it shows all of his accomplishments and the type of person he was. Like to many people Abraham Lincoln in an inspiration to me in many ways. The things that he did for our country are amazing and he did it on in a time when all the odds were against him. All his action were brave and took a lot of guts, that’s one of the reasons he inspires me because most men or women don’t have the courage to do so.

I don’t know about you, but becoming president of USA is a huge accomplishment, people dream of becoming president because it’s a big deal. Especially after growing up poor and losing his mother at such young age he was a able to overcome all that and become the 16th president. That’s one of the main reasons that he inspires me because he knows how to keep going when the going get tough. He also issued The Emancipation Proclamation, which freed over 3 million slaves from the Confederate States(Coolidge 113). That was a bold move by him because by issuing the Emancipation Proclamation he basically told the south that he wasn’t going to stand for their bs. The proclamation also let African Americans enlist in the Union far, this led to over 100,000 African Americans fighting in the Civil War. That helped out the Union in a big way because they fought with more determination than anyone else since they were fighting for their people.
Another one of his greatest accomplishments would have to be when he led the Union to victory. This in my opinion was his best accomplishment since people from the very beginning were opposing him. He was a chief in commander even though he had little experience on the battlefield(Coolidge 163). That didn’t stop him from going forth and reading about warfare. He improved many of the Union’s tactics because the Union general weren’t the best and the south exceed them in generals.
