The stolen child by W.B. Yeats and Cats in the Cradle by Harry Chapin both convey the loss of childhood innocence. Chapin's song tells the far and non-interactive relationship between father and son. Yeat's poem is a story of a fairy inviting a child to escape the misery and sorrow of his human world. Although both pieces share important similarities, one crucial difference is that the song is powerful and tragic compared to the fantasy of The stolen child. The song and the poem both convey the loss of childhood innocence. In The stolen child, Yeats states "we seek for slumbering trout and whispering in their ears give them unquiet dreams". This shows that the faery can be disturbing the child and affecting his happiness. Also, the
