Patrick Thomas Vaughan a 39-year-old from charlotte, pleaded guilty in 1999 at age 21 for rape was sentenced to 31 years in prison without parole. You might be asking what does this have to do with neglect and abuse of a minor, it has everything to do with it.
Patrick Vaughan grew up in what seemed to be the average, middle class family. His mom, Anne, worked full time as a secretary and his dad was in construction.

Anne, his mom, was very sweet, poised and soft spoken. She was always very well dressed and professional looking. She was a great employee and appeared to be a wonderful mother who loved her children dearly. Patrick had a sister Molly, who was a few years older than him. He also had an older brother in the military.

Vaughan would break in the houses with a pry bar to break into their homes, he struck at dawn when the women were asleep. He only preyed on woman that lived alone. He blindfolded them and tied them up. However, when Vaughan attempts to rape the 4th the victim he changes his routine. The victim describes to the judge how on March 1997, she came home from a friend's wedding party where she was kidnapped at gunpoint from her condominium parking lot near Quail Corners shopping center. Vaughan then raped her in her car and forced her to withdraw money from an ATM machine, then left her on a deserted road and stole her car. Word of a serial rapist terrified Charlotte residents in early 1998, until a fingerprint at one of the crime scenes led investigators to Vaughan. Vaughan turned himself in and confessed to each crime, investigators said. The 21-year-old Charlotte man pleaded guilty to the rape charges and 33 other crimes, including kidnappings, sex offenses, robberies, burglaries, house and car break-ins, larcenies and credit card theft.
