In 2003, they released a fantastic movie directed by Maurice Phillips and produced by John Hannah. Some of the main characters in this movie include Dr. Jekyll/Mr. Hyde played by John Hannah, Mabel Mercer played by Kellie Shirley, and Ned played by Jack Blumenau. Dr Jekyll and Mr. Hyde is a drama/thriller about a scientist (Dr. Jekyll) whose mad experiment goes wrong. He wants to figure out how to separate the good from the evil in a human’s soul and what happens to him while it’s in his system.

Upon reading the novel The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde by Robert Louis Stevenson I would not have guessed there being such a controversy or existing reason behind simply the names of the characters involved. With such a dark path and background foreshadowing the novel I could have seen some sort of controversy in how the story may have been portrayed and understood, but there is an audience of readers that believe that there is something more behind the book. Internal conflicts are a struggle occurring within a character’s mind. Today we compare and contrast these internal conflict through three novels. First, Strange case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde by Robert Louis Stevenson, it’s the story of the good versus evil embodied in the good Dr. Jekyll who’s converting to the evil Mr. Hyde. Second, The Yellow Wallpaper by Charlotte Perkins Gilman, The Yellow Wallpaper is the story of a woman who’s placed in isolation to recover from a health condition. Over time she starts to notice something transform in the strange looking yellow wallpaper.
Dr. Jekyll is seemingly good, kind, and benevolent; while is not purely good he is a moral gentleman. He started his experiment so he could totally separate the bad and the good in himself into two separate beings. He did not succeed, however, for Dr. Jekyll is plagued by the feeling that he wants to become evil again, thus he wants to become Mr. Hyde. It is important to note that Mr. Hyde is completely evil; he has no goodness in him, in contrast to Dr. Jekyll who was a troubled mix. Mr. Hyde feels no remorse for any evil he has done and actually feels elated when he does commit a moral sin.
Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde are two completely different people. They are different, not just in physical appearance, but also in behaviors. Differences in characters are important especially if there are two main characters or two characters that are mentioned as much as these two are. So, this is not a surprise that these two characters are different in almost everyway. To start, Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde are different in physical appearance.

Utterson describes him as being about fifty years old; a large, tall man without facial hair ("smooth-faced"). He also says Jekyll is devoted to charities and to his religion.

The doppelgangers are now completely in control of Jekyll and Dorian’s lives, inhibiting their abilities to live life normally. On one pleasant day, Jekyll found himself sitting on a park bench, content with just observing the scenery. He suddenly began to “feel a change in the temper of [his] thoughts” and when he looked down, “[he] was once more Edward Hyde” (Stevenson 78). In broad daylight, without taking the potion, Jekyll managed to transform into Hyde; showing the deterioration in his strength and the increase in Hyde’s. Out of fear of being caught and harming others, Jekyll locks himself in his laboratory and seeks a solution for his particular ‘ailment’.
Robert Louis Stevenson was born on November 13, 1850, in Edinburgh, Scotland. He was an only child that inherited his mother weak lungs which affected him through his whole life. He attended school at the age of seven but it was irregular because of the health issues he had. In his early life he went to the University of Edinburgh to pursue a career path in engineering to help his father with the lighthouse business. But he wasn't doing well in that school and was known for the horrible way he dressed and his behavior.
