MORGANTOWN, W.Va.-The No. 25 West Virginia University baseball team split a doubleheader with Oklahoma on Saturday afternoon. After suspending the opening game of the series due to lightning, the Mountaineers and Sooners finished Friday 's game as part of a doubleheader on Saturday. Trailing 2-1 in the sixth, WVU sent freshman Sam Kessler (1-2) to the mound. The right-hander pitched 2.2 innings, allowing just two hits and picking up his first career win. Jimmy Galusky led the Mountaineers with hits and second baseman Kyle Gray drove in the eventual game-winning run with a two-out single in the sixth inning.
This caused many conflicts, but in the end, it reflected who Tom was as a person. Beginning Thomas’s training in school, he did not enjoy it at all. The new Ute ways made him feel like a replica of an Indian. He tried running away multiple times, but his guardians would always somehow catch him, till one day where he had finally escaped.
There are some scary moments when he thinks his dogs are going to die. Then one day his papa tells him about a hunting competition and they go to it. After a couple of days at it they actually win it. The books shows that nothing can last forever .
Tom has been going to master to master and he is wishing he gets a master like Mr. Shelby or St. Claire but does not get that instead a person named legree who has bought him and a girl named Emiliane. They get to his plantation and it is just beaten down and they can tell that when he acquired it he didn't try to keep it up and legree already does not like Tom because Tom has religion and legree understands soon that he cannot break tom and tom has a greater moral character than him and cannot bend him and this frustrates legree. Legree is just awful to tom he beats him all most all the time whenever he is mad and does not care that tom costed a lot of money. Legree ends up having overseers of his plant to beat tom to death and the sad part
Michael Oher faces adversity throughout the whole movie making him have to overcome it to be the best he can be. It when Michael meets Leigh Ann Touhy and her family on the sidewalk in the pouring rain that he believes like he belongs to the world and that he just just got past the first step of overcoming adversity. Lennie has no family apart from George who he annoys constantly and being disabled and slow, his capabilities are limited as he would not be able to survive on his own. The only 'Family' Lennie has is George Milton, his friend who stays by his side to make sure he is safe. This is due to George promising Lennie's aunt that he would take care of him.
As from chapter one, it was evident that Lennie was a big man with a child-like heart, brain and attitude, he was not an independent man, while George was quite the opposite-a short but averagely intelligent who could live on his own(independent). Due to Lennie’s attitude and behaviour, it will not be wrong to say that the relationship between Lennie and George was that like father and son. It is also obvious that they were in a symbiotic kind of relationship in which Lennie benefited the most out of in the sense that he got taken care of by George while George got only the benefit of

“Hopes and dreams help people survive, even if they never become real” Well, this quote can be used to describe what the two protagonists in “Of Mice and Men” written by John Steinbeck did to survive in the world. This quote is significant to the characters in the novel, because Lennie Small and George Milton, both wanted to own a Ranch, hoping that they would own one some day, is what kept them motivated to work. On the other hand Curley's wife also had a dream, to become an actress, and become well-known in Hollywood.
I found Roger’s (Matthew) excuses very intriguing, it was thoughts that never crossed through my mind. Rogers’s perspective was totally opposite from the prosecutor’s perspective. In Roger’s shoes, he wanted to end the conflict between Ralph, Piggy and Jack so he leaned on the lever to push the boulder which would interrupt them and hopefully stop them from fighting. On the other hand, the prosecutor’s point of view is that Roger leaned on the boulder to purposely hit Piggy so that he would die.
Survival is often introduced as a concept of endurance, persistence and perseverance, a textbook idea about simply living or dying. At the inception of human life, merely surviving was imperative and existence was something that humans fought for on a daily basis. But, as we flourish independently, as societies and as a race, the concept of survival is warped, and growth as an individual, as well as coping with everyday hardships and not just traditional examples of adversity such as poverty and destitution are prime examples of survival. In John Steinbeck’s novel, Of Mice and Men, the reader is presented with the idea that survival is not synonymous to staying alive, and moreover, that cultural and societal struggles shape self in accordance with the way we face them. Survival of the fittest is the primordial notion that only the fit have the power and strength to live, and more importantly, thrive in their environment.
Despair Among People During the Great Depression People who face great odds will hang on to hope, however, many will lose it to the cruel reality they live in. This is the story told in the novel, Of Mice and Men, written by John Steinbeck. In this novel, Lennie and George are traveling bindle stiffs who experience the losses that come with the Great Depression, and the hope of others that is dashed by the death of one person. This theme of hope and loss is shown through Curley's wife, Candy, and George.
In the tale of Mice and Men, Candy's dog gets by one of his friends, Carlson. Candy's dog should have been killed. “Can't eat, can't see, can't walk without hurtin’.” Was what Carlson had pointed out. The dog was too old and in too much pain.
“With us it ain't like that. We got a future. We got somebody to talk to that gives a damn about us” (14). That quote was the hope of their future that George always told Lennie during the Great Depression to get through the rough time, not knowing the troubles they would have at the ranch. Two farm laborers or best friends, George and Lennie, have always travelled together to keep each other company, but their hope shined through the dull lives in their era causing them to be outcasts.
When the teenage boy “crosses the threshold” the cancer finally catches up to him. He goes through all these trials of his girlfriend breaking up with him cause she said, “Its to hard for me.” and he has to go through all these treatments including chemo. As goes for Beowulf, he goes up against Grendel and his mother to the death. Beowulf saves his experiences by being able to tell his story and he keeps a part of Grendel as a gift or treasure.
Throughout the Great Depression unemployment was at an all time high. Around 13 to 15 million men were without work. This left workers to hop from city to city in hopes of finding a job. Only optimism could make men move forward, especially in the face of such dark times. Of Mice and Men is a touching story written by John Steinbeck.
