Grand Valley State University Student encourage young adults with social media hashtags Grand Rapids, Mich, Jan 9, 2018 – While over the last few months of 2017 news media outlets have taken on the issues of sexual misconduct mainstream. Though a lot of the victims in the entertainment business are more women than men, there is not a single reason to avoid the issues. Some say that the victims of this issue have waited too long to address the problem but Megan Dungy, a Grand Valley student would highly disagree. She was quoted saying “when making big or small choice in one’s life most of us were taught to take your time, is it any different when one is revealing something so atrocious about their lives and personal being?” The media has had some good and oddly absurd views on the topic while this students wants to take a stand for those feeling trapped by time. …show more content…

So, to help others and a wide range of people quickly, Megan took to social media and the hashtag trends. Everyday people create hashtags for many reasons but she felt this cause is worth fighting for. Clearly, social media has become a huge news outlet source for all ages and companies. For example, the hashtag #metoo and #timesup have been viral since allegations against serval entertainment mainstream producers, actors and many others. As a result, Megan decided that young adults who too have been a victim of such crimes should have a hashtag also. Certainly, it was fitting to be inclusive not only to woman but all people who have been affected by such inappropriate behavior.
