Symbols is a thing that represents or stands for something. They can be characterized and or classified. They are also used for people, things, and places. In messenger Mentor, Trademark, and Village all symbolizes something. Throughout the story the symbols of each character change. In Messenger the author Lois Lowry uses multiple illustrations of symbolization for the characters in the story. To begin, how is the symbol of Mentor important in Messenger? “Children loved him. He was a wise and patient teacher” (Lowry 6). Mentor was a kind and loving person. He helped everyone and wanting everyone happy. Mentor symbolized generosity.” The most wonderful part of father, how he cared for everyone and tried to help them learn” (Lowry 70).
