For this essay, I am choosing to write about the Telepinu myth and The Enuma elish epic. The Hittites ruled the Anatolia region from 1600 to 1200 B.C. This area is also known as the great crossroads or Asia Minor (modern-day Turkey). This peninsula lies between the Black Sea and the Mediterranean Sea. There is very little known about the actual Hittite culture, other than they worked with metals and, grains were their primarily source of agriculture. Anatolia's diverse climate lead to the creation of the myth of Telepinu. Telepinu is the god of fertility and every time there was a drought or crops did not grow, he was to blame. The Mother Goddess continues to teach the other gods while searching for Telepinu. A quality many mothers have as well. I can recall numerous occasions that I was given a task to complete and I would try to find a shortcut to finish the task earlier. The greater gods tried to use shortcuts as well, only to achieve the result most of us do. Mothers are creative, this is verified with the use of the bee to locate and purify Telepinu. Even if the shortcuts worked, the greater gods would not have been able to awake Telepinu nor calm his rage. The Mother Goddess was created when prayers were answered, and the crops were plentiful again. It was her empathy and wisdom that the Hittites praised during good seasons. During bad seasons, it was the male gods that caused the drought or lack of fertile land. Today's society most families are using matriarchy style to govern their family. I was always raised with the quote " a happy wife is a happy life." The Enuma elish epic was created by the Babylonians as early as 1900 B.C. Babylon is a famous city from Mesopotamia. This civilization controlled modern-day Iraq from 2300 B.C. to 539 B.C. Babylonians follows a patriarchy form of government. The father or eldest male is the head of the family and women are largely excluded. I have been too Iraq on multiple occasions, witnessing this form of government is still in
