Cause-and-Effect Essay
Many people, including myself, love to read horror stories, do you? People are intrigued in them by the suspense that the story gives them. The cause-and-effect relationships in "The Tell-Tale Heart" by Eager Allan Poe and "The Monkey's Paw" by W.W. Jacobs both poems tell a suspense filled story that ends in death.
In the story “The Monkeys Paw” the son dies because his dad was being greedy and wished for money. The dad “Herbert” had wished for two hundred pounds and when his son died, they were brought two hundred pounds as a “sorry”. Later that night, Mr. White grabbed the paw and wished for Herbert back. He raised his hand. "I wish my son alive again." They heard a knock on the door, "For God's sake, don't let it in," cried the old man trembling. “You’re afraid of your own son," she cried, struggling. "Let me go. I'm coming, Herbert; I'm coming. “There was another knock, and another. The old woman with a sudden wrench broke free and ran from the room. Her husband followed to the landing, and called after her appealingly as she hurried downstairs. He heard the chain rattle back and the bottom bolt drawn slowly and stiffly from the socket. Jacobs both ballads recount an anticipation filled story that closures in death. The causes and effects are important because that’s what keeps you interested, that’s what keeps you asking yourself “what’s going to happen next”, it grabs your attention and really Makes the story more suspenseful. The attention grabber that made me ask what was going to happen next was in the monkeys paw on page 116 when Mrs. White thought it was Herbert at the door and it turned out that it wasn’t him and when Mr. White wished for him to be gone, His wife dies too, that was a cliff hanger, and I still wondering why she
