The Tell-Tale Heart, by Edgar Allen Poe, is a short story about a narrator reciting the murder they committed. It is interesting that the gender of the narrator was never revealed. There were many clues in the story indicating that the narrator was a female. For example, it’s possible that the narrator is a housekeeper for the old man, because the murder was very clean and she had access to his home. The police came to the old man’s house after the narrator killed and hid the body. The narrator confidently told them that the old man “was absent in the country” (Poe, 15) and let them in.
