Intro- building a bridge between the past and present occurs through renewing art and making canonical texts accessible and relevant. Through their commentary on characters who are metaphorically imprisoned and the resonance and dissonance utilised throughout the texts, William Shakespeare and Margaret Atwood have criticised the ideas of imprisonment and forgiveness, guiding individuals to liberation and understanding the colonialism and post-colonialism individuals have faced.
