“Is love a Political matter or is it truly love ?” In the “Tempest” by William Shakespeare a very obvious topic is the fact that Miranda and Ferdinand have love at 1st sight but for many it comes to speculation that are they really in love or is it a political thing. When Prospero finds out his daughter is in love with king Alonso son he soon finds a way for them to fall in love so they can get off the island and become royalty. To conclude with it is in a political stance.

In one of the scenes of the play Miranda tells Ferdinand that he is the 3rd man she has ever seen in her life which meaning she really is infatuated by him because he is another male she has seen besides her father and Caliban. In the play it states, “A thing divine; for nothing natural i ever saw so noble”( Shakespeare 527). In this statement Miranda is describing Ferdinand. In the play it states that “work not hard ! I would the lighting had burnt up those logs that enjoyed to pile !” ( Shakespeare 556). in the quote Prospero sent Ferdinand to pick up logs to prove himself worthy to marry Miranda. That strategy he used so he can make him to want to marry Miranda more. In conclusion this is one way that their marriage is political.

The last reasoning Miranda and Ferdinand's marriage is political is that in act V when she meets all the men she looks at them on how more attractive they are than Ferdinand which meaning the marriage would not last. In the play it states, “ How many goodly creatures are there here ! How beauteous mankind is!” (Shakespeare 592). In the statement Miranda is at awe with all the men that she has seen on the island from the shipwreck and sees how attractive they are.
