In a nostalgic article “Endless Summer”, Rick Bragg uses imagery to reveal how the characteristics of a long lasting summer have been changed over time, and often generations now take summer for granted. As a child, Bragg thought of summer as a symbol of time and slowly watched it “stew and simmer” away. He goes into further detail about how as a child he would play in a mud hole to pass time. This opposes his views later stated about how kids today would rather be found inside on electronics to pass their boredom. Bragg’s also states that kids today will never feel “mud mush between their toes” like he felt as a child.

"Antelopes and Gazelles" is a common feeling caused by the significance of shoes to two individuals' lives. This is depicted in Ray Bradburys short story, "The Sound of Summer Running", where a boy, Douglas, and a shoe store owner, Mr. Sanderson, share a special connection to shoes. The two both feel a strong sense of freedom when around or wearing sneakers, as well as shoes having a unique way of motivating the two. Through discovering their bond, the men grow closer and share a moment of resemblance. Throughout the story, Mr. Sanderson and Douglas connect over the positive feelings they get when they wear or think about shoes.
Allusions can bring history into many types of literature. They compare and illustrate situations, people, and many other parts of a story to better the audience’s understanding of the connotation being presented. For example, the book The Hot Zone, portrays many examples of allusion. In this novel, scientists from all over the world research to find the natural host and the end to the Ebola virus and its sister, the Marburg virus. Many people and events in history are used to describe the way the Ebola virus behaves in humans and monkeys.
The author then goes into a story about Rachel on her birthday in class, and a red sweater.
People can be good at many things, and sometimes they are the best at those things. I believe that Ray Bradbury, focused on multiple craft moves in The Veldt such as dialogue, personification, and flashbacks to show that he can be one of the best, when it comes to adding craft moves into his writing. He made the writing more interesting and described and showed the moments in different ways. He also used many different craft moves throughout the story, but I think that these three, dialogue, personification, and flashbacks are the most important, and I believe that without these craft moves the story wouldn’t have as big of an impact on the reader as it did with them. Ray Bradbury used dialogue to show how the characters are feeling at that exact moment, and is shown throughout the story to show interactions between characters in that moment in time.
In the short story, “The Sound of Summer Running,” Ray Bradbury uses figurative dialect and dialogue to delineate how both Douglas and Mr. Sanderson's feelings about running shoes. Douglas and his family has just left the theaters.
The feeling of just running around with a brand-new pair of shoes, the warm sun illuminating the sky as one step after another is taken. It just feels wonderful and free; like anything is possible. In the book “The Sound of Summer Running” by Ray Bradbury, a boy called Douglas wants a pair of new tennis shoes. But, as shown throughout the book, not everyone feels the same way about the topic. Bradbury uses dialogue and figurative language to show how different characters like Douglas and Mr. Sanderson feel about the idea of the new tennis shoes and getting them for Douglas.
Literary Analysis Suspense. It's what makes us sit on the edge of our seats at movies, or has us biting our nails as we read. It’s the backbone behind any classic horror film where the babysitter keeps getting unknown phone calls about checking the children and she asks the police to trace the call only to get a call back saying it's coming from upstairs.
The teacher, Ms. Price picks up a sweater and asks the class if anyone is missing a sweater. A student says that it's Rachel's, and the teacher gives her the sweater without even thinking. Rachel thinks and speaks in a way that is very reminiscent of an eleven year old. There is a youthful, innocent tone in her voice, especially when she says “I wish I was one hundred and two instead of eleven” without actually thinking about the disadvantages of being that age. Throughout the day, she references home and how she longs to go home to celebrate with her family and eat cake.

In life we can all relate to the feeling of longing for something. In All Summer in a Day, Ray Bradbury’s characters’ lives are clouded with rain and the only see the sun once every seven years. Bradbury uses metaphors, emotions, and repetition to express the sun’s meaning of hope to the main character, Margot, and the children of rocket men and women on Venus. Metaphors and emotions are used to help the reader relate to the connection with the sun. He describes the sun and the rain using metaphors, and uses the children’s emotions to help further the idea.
Griffin Youngs Period 1 English 10 GT In the short story, “Eleven”, Sandra Cisneros depicts Rachel as an empathetic, wise, but socially misunderstood child who feels excluded by both her teachers and her fellow students. Cisneros utilizes various literary techniques throughout “Eleven” to help bring out the characteristics of the young and bashful Rachel, whose shyness keeps her from being able to express her inner brilliance. A prominent literary technique shown by Cisneros throughout the story is imagery.
Historical criticism strives to cognize a literary work by examining the social, cultural, and intellectual context that essentially includes the artist’s biography and milieu. Historical critics are more concerned with guiding readers through the use of identical connotation rather than analyzing the work’s literary significance. (Brizee and Tompkins). The journey of a historical reading begins with the assessment of how the meaning of a text has altered over time. In many cases, when the historical context of a text is not fully comprehended, the work literature cannot be accurately interpreted.
