Imagine war on the battlefield without courage. In the book Allies by Alan Graz, each storyline hints at how much they have progressed through this event called D-Day, which took place on June 6 1944. Courage was needed for these soldiers to fight back and unite together. In this historical fiction book, these characters use their courage to lead them to success. Many soldiers need this courage to overcome their struggles and fear. To find courage during tough times people have to believe in themselves. Courage will lead individuals to take action against discrimination. One specific piece of evidence that supports this is how on page 240-242 Dee had shown courage by volunteering for what Sid said which was a ¨ suicide mission ¨. Someone from this team needed to step up to get close enough to the tank to do some real damage. Dee had volunteered which emphasizes amazing courage for him to stand up for not only himself but also the whole entire team even when he knew this was a ¨ suicide mission ¨ Dee still said he would be volunteering. This indicates that courage can lead you to stand up for yourself and others. Another specific example that supports this is how on page 131-133 James had gone into the basement of a Nazi bunker and had found a French family living there. This family was poorly treated by the Nazis and basically were slaves who had cooked for them. James had represented courage by standing up for this French family who were slaves to the Nazis. James had even stated that ¨ Nobody should have to live like this, under the boot of Nazi rule, anywhere in the world ¨ This portrays that James stood up for this family and said that they will never live like this ever again no matter what happens to him He will always protect them no matter what.
