What makes a story great? All great stories and pieces of literature have one aspect in common, they all have a significant theme. A theme brings the story together to make it whole, and it shows the reason why the author wrote that story. The story “Frankenstein” has multiple themes, but the one that I chose stands as friendship is key to loving and living life. I feel this theme represents “Frankenstein” for various reasons. One reason this theme best signifies “Frankenstein” as stated by Mary Shelley in the story, “But I have one want which I have never yet been able to satisfy, and the absence of the object of which I now feel as a most severe evil, I have no friend, Margaret:when I am glowing with the enthusiasm of success, there will be none to participate my joy; if I am assailed by disappointment, no one will endeavour to sustain me in dejection. I shall commit my thoughts to paper, it is true; but that is a poor medium for the communication of feeling” (Shelley Letter 2).
