Call Of the Wild is a short adventure novel and set in Yukon, Canada during the 1890s Klondike Gold Rush, when strong sled dogs were in high demand. The central character of the novel is a dog named Buck. The story opens at a ranch in the Santa Clara Valley of California when Buck is stolen from his home and sold into service as a sled dog in Alaska. He progressively reverts to a wild state in the harsh climate, where he is forced to fight to dominate other dogs. By the end, he sheds the veneer of civilization and relies on primordial instinct and learned experience to emerge as a leader in the wild.
Many characters have developed throughout The Marrow Thieves, but none have grown as much as Francis. The novel The Marrow Thieves by Cherie Dimaline is about coming of age and discovering one's Identity. The Marrow Thieves explores the topic of Coming of age and discovering one’s identity, by discussing Francis’ development throughout the novel. Francis is the protagonist and is a significant character in the novel. Judging by Francis’ actions and behaviour at the beginning of the novel, he is perceived as an Ignorant young man.

As the story goes on Buck gets dognapped and sent to the man in the red sweater. The man in the red sweater is also known as the crack dog doctor.
More civilized dogs like Newfoundland’s and even huskies find primitive counterparts in the wolves whose howl at the end of the story was the very sound of the wild. London “doubles” the story into opposing worlds. Buck begins in the waking world of reality and ends in a silent, white wasteland which was also the world of dream, shadow, and racial memory. Buck survives to embrace life at the end of a book informed by death as the horrifying, rhythmic reflex of an entire order of things. Life in The Call of the Wild was a survival built on the death of other living creatures.
One’s quest for greed and selfishness tear the soul apart. Throughout the novel, "Call of the Wild", written by Jack London it was apparent that due to the greed of multiple characters, lives of others were destroyed. Wherever Buck wandered the selfishness of others took away his happiness. Greed destroys and takes from everyone and everything. To begin with, Buck had a golden life.
Call of the Wild is a book about a sled pulling dog named Buck, Buck wasn’t always pulling sleds though. He used to be a domesticated dog living under the roof of a rich Judge, but all of that changed when he was captured and sold to two men who were crossing the Yukon territory. Through many courses of events, Buck became wild, hence the name of the book. This book takes place in the Yukon territory which was freezing and conditions were very rough, by the end of the story Buck had changed because of the problems he faced.
Buck had to get into a fight. He had to kill another dog; his world had become much harsher. Buck being pulled into the harsh world by being kidnapped and then having to fight in it shows how harsh his world has
Throughout The Call of the Wild, many different types of relationships were formed. Sometimes they were loving, they were also sometimes harsh, in some cases they were even only good for one member of the relationship. Jack London does a great job of demonstrating multiple types of relationships with many different people. In the book, Buck 's first relationship is a loving one with a judge and his family.
When he is sold again to the very inexperienced owners he adapts once more. After leading miserably on measly, innutritious rations, Buck and his team stagger into John Thornton’s camp. This is the first time Buck has ever failed his owner. Knowing that they are headed for certain doom, Buck refuses to rise. This shows a massive change in his attitude.

From domesticated and tamed to wild and primitive, the transformation of Buck from beginning to end is a result of nature and nurture combined. Nature, his genetic makeup, proves to be the most dominant in his development of becoming a free creature of the wilderness.
Throughout the varying time periods, artists have represented the culture, values, and logic of their environment and reflected them into their work. The Enlightenment Period was an era in which artists pulled their inspiration from observation and reason, noting that nature should be controlled by humans and society by social hierarchy. Whereas, the Era of Romanticism placed emphasis on emotions and imagination, whilst responding to the work of the Enlightenment Period and showcased work that focused on the ideas of democracy and leaving nature untamed. In the latter Realism period, many literature pieces focused on the ordinary rather than large scale ideas and no longer seeing nature as an antidote to human injustices. (698).
Buck is being called into the wild. His life events changed who he was and sent him free in spirit and body. Once Thornton was kill Buck was able to be free and just be a wild dog with the others (napierkowski). In my opinion, this book shouldn’t have been in the category of banned and challenged books.
He encountered many confrontations and adventures in the wild, but Buck still remains the leader due to his strength. He has gone through many situations, lost his team, and his recent master. This is where he will meet Thornton and bond together. He will adapt to a new lifestyle as this quote emphasizes “Dog and man watched it crawling over the ice.
