The theme that I found rather intriguing was how there was a fantasy vs. reality theme in the play. Whenever Blanche speaks, she is always speaking off of an illusion. The story she tells about the reason she ends up at Stella’s door is one of her illusions. Another one of her illusions is when she puts the paper shade over the bare light bulb because she does not want to be seen for who she really is. All of the lies that she tells Mitch are an illusion. Blanche tells Mitch the reason that she lies is because she does not want to accept the fate she has been dealt.
