Some people don’t have the same luxury as others. Some people have to live without one parent or live in poverty. “In terror” by Junot Diáz, describes the terror of being an immigrant in America. In this story, he shows and tells us the events leading up to his getting jumped by two brothers that go to his school. Diáz uses the description to show us how trying it can be to be an immigrant. He shows us the theme at the end of the story when he faces his fears in the face. The message that we found is that you should not let people get into your head and mess with your emotions. The first craft move that Diáz uses to show the reader not to let people get in your head is the description. On the first page, the reader can see the description when he uses it to describe how trying his school and life at home. He also uses bigotry to describe and show the kids at school. “ Whose dreary white middle school class bigotry.”(Diáz pg 1)He uses examples like these throughout the story up until he gets jumped. After this encounter, he puts all his emotions behind him and lets the brothers walk past him.”I forced myself to stop, “I forced myself to turn myself toward them, and it felt as if the whole world was turning with me.” He uses this to show overcoming his fear of these brothers, and how all it takes is to look your problems in the …show more content…

He uses this to show readers to not let others get inside their head and mess with their emotions. Through the story, he reveals new information and shows us new conflicts that had happened in the past year. An example of him doing this is on the first page when he is talking about being jumped at a bad time in his life. Then he starts revealing how many things that had happened to him, it helps us feel how bad he feels (text) This gives us the idea of how bad of a turn his life took at this time, and then him getting jumped by the brothers was like the cherry on top of the whole
