Just because he writes of the time period Washington Irving has been accused of misogyny. He may appear to show this trait in his stories, but he does not show a enthusiastic venture to misogyny. It may appear that way in the stories Rip Van Winkle and The Devil and Tom Walker, but then you get to the story of Sleepy Hollow.
