The Theme Of Survival In We Are All Made Of Molecules By Nielsen

We all have a survival instinct within us. In the book City of Ember and We Are All Made of Molecules they using survival in their books, but in completely different ways. In City of Ember, they are using it to try and save there world when the mayor is trying to kill them, but in We Are All Made of Molecules Susin Nielsen using it to survive through school and everything in Stewarts life. Everyone has different definitions of survival. What's yours?
The author Susin Nielsen is using the motif survival in the book because Stewart is trying to survive school and living with Ashley at the same time. He is scared that something will happen at school or he will get made fun of therefore he made a list of tactics on how to survive high school.

She is using it way differently, she is using it that the 2 main kids have to find a way out of the town by following clues. Lina is under a lot of stress because she is having to help her grandmother and baby sister. Her grandmother is starting to forget a lot of important things so Lina states “we have a problem”(Page 60). By including this in the book it's showing survival is difficult but there are ways to survive it takes time. Lina and Doon are out trying to figure what the paper is saying and during this she found a door a couple days before and when they went back to the locked door she says “man came out of the mystery room”(page 155 ). She is trying to explain that the guy that came out of the door is unknown and Lina had to try and survive getting out of there without the guy knowing she was there. On page 171 she says “THE EXIT!” and that's when they finally understood the letter and got to figure out what the letter was saying and surviving through the mayor/guards chasing

And he has to try and get Ashley to like him somehow. Everyone at his new high school is also bullying him, while Stewart is thinking there just joking around and having a good time. In the book City of Ember they are using survival to show that these kids had to risk their lives trying to figure out what a letter said to try and save there world from all the lights going out forever. They had to run from the guards on page 213 she said: “I heard the guards shout, terror ran through me”. By that statement, it's showing she was scared for her life but she knew she had to get out of there and find out what the letter was saying to save herself and sister. Although you might think survival isn't just getting through school it is trying to escape for your life, that is a way of survival but the definition is “the state or fact of continuing to live or exist, typically in spite of an accident, ordeal, or difficult circumstances.” Having difficult circumstances you are already trying to survive that no matter what comes their way and they have to overcome that
