Abbey Neville Eleanna Burke ENG LIT C May 3, 2023 Term Paper Feed is a dystopian novel that portrays a society ruled by technology. The author carefully created characters and themes that support the overall message that technology is destroying humanity. The themes of corporations and consumerism, advertising and media, satisfaction and contentment, language decline, knowledge and thought, loss of individuality, and connectivity and isolation develop the takeaway message the author intended to communicate that technology is removing the uniqueness and diversity that makes people human. The theme of corporations and consumerism is constructed by the author through the use of a fictional government and corporations. These corporations have created a device called a ‘feed’ that is embedded in almost the entire population. The feed is a form of technology “where the Internet and advertising banners are fed directly into people’s heads via computer chip” (CandleWick Press).
