Hamlet and many of our short stories all followed the theme of volatile. Volatile is, liable to change rapidly and unpredictably, especially for the worse. All of these stories share this mood and tone throughout the story. They all have rapid changes, due to an abundance of emotions overwhelming thoughts of something that they don’t even know is happening, or going on in there life. Hamlet is a very volatile story, meaning hamlet changes a lot throughout the story. In the very beginning of the story when his mom married his uncle. At first he was only heart broken because his father had died. Now, he comes back home and sees that his mother remarried, so quickly, and to his uncle. This story starts off with Rainsford falling off of a boat and swimming to a near island, where he meet a local psychopath named Zaroff. Zaroff got bored with hunting animals so he has moved onto bigger things, humans. He would mislead ships and make them wreck. Then give the people on the ships two options, be hunted for three days or be tortured. This falls with the other two because he also was not in his correct state of mind, as Hamlet was not either. This man (Zaroff), had reached insanity, just as Hamlet did when he wanted to avenge his dead father. He was always alone, so he had nothing better to do than hunt. And doing one thing over and over again gets boring. There was no longer any thrill in hunting animals anymore. So, he changed, and not for the better. He changed because he got bored. Both of these stories relate to Hamlet in two very similar but also different ways. “The Sniper”, related to Hamlet because he was not in the correct state of mind while he was shooting, because he was infuriated that he had gotten shot, and his adrenaline pumping through his body. Hamlet was also not in the right state of mind when devising the plan to kill multiple people, mostly because he was heartbroken about his father, then his mom married his uncle just making him so mad. So instead of grieving, he then wanted revenge on everyone who had a part in his father's death. They both ended up killing people while in a bad state of mind, caused by frustration, and wanting revenge on another person. And hamlet relates to “The Most Dangerous Game”, because they both changed when they hit that insanity point. Zaroff hit insanity because he was always lonely and constantly bored. Hamlet reached insanity by all of the build up of emotions that eventually all hit him at once, mostly because he wanted nothing more than to avenge his father’s
