In Macbeth, the tragedy by William Shakespeare, the main question revolving around who is in control is established. The main character, Macbeth, is the Thane of Glamis in Scotland. He and his best friend, Banquo, encounter 3 witches, named The Wëird Sisters, “upon the heath” who inform him of a prophecy about him becoming Thane of Cawdor and King of Scotland with Banquo’s sons becoming king as well. After hearing this prognostication, Macbeth receives news that he is now Thane of Cawdor from the King of Scotland because the old leader, Macdonwald, betrayed his country in battle and Macbeth got rewarded for his defeat on him. Macbeth returns to the witches with ghost sightings of Banquo. They then relay to him to fear Macduff and how he shall only die on the two terms, “from a man not born from woman” and when “Birnam Wood moves to a place called Dunsinbane.” After this incident, Macbeth kills Macduff’s whole family. Lady Macbeth commits suicide over her own guilt and Macbeth gets news about how Birnam Wood is moving. He then prepares for battle against Macduff and learns since Macduff was birthed from a cesarean-section, he was not “born from a woman.” He then fights Macduff and loses while Macduff takes his head as a trophy and makes his son Malcom, king, Although Lady Macbeth and Macbeth had some control, The Wëird Sisters possessed the most power through their prophecies about Macbeths’s death and new titles proven to be …show more content…

In Document A, the enchantresses chant “All hail Macbeth, Thane of Cawdor,” and “All hail, Macbeth, thou shalt be king hereafter!”Shortly after this encounter, he becomes Thane of Cawdor and through the murder of Duncan, he becomes King of Scotland. When it may seem as if Macbeth does the actions, he does them through the influence of the witches. If he would have never met the witches, he would’ve never had intent to murder Duncan, Banquo, or Macduff’s family considering the thought of him becoming king would have never crossed his mind moreover taken over his mind. Another of the prophecies that was expressed was about how when Birnam Wood moves towards Dunsinbane, Macbeth will die. In Document E, Macbeth explains how “[he] look'd toward Birnam, and anon, methought, The wood began to move.” When he notices this change from afar, he gets ready for battle to “die with harness on [his] back.” He then gets attaked by Malcom and the English Army, which he defeats and faces Macduff, who he ends up getting killed by. As the prophecy of The Wëird Sisters comes true again, they are the ones in control of the plot of the story and Macbeth
