When I think about the story, “The Three Little Pigs,” I think about an angry wolf blowing down the houses of two sweet little innocent pigs, trying to eat them, and how they had to run into their brother’s house made of brick and order to survive. I never put much thought into if this how the original story goes or if the wolf was really trying to eat them or not. I never question the story because this is the version I have always been told. In this paper, I will be comparing the two stories, the original version of, “The Three Little Pigs,” to the updated version which is from the wolf point of view. In the original version to, “The Three Little Pigs,” retold by Flora Annie Steel in 1922, the mother pig grew too old to feed her three little …show more content…

The updated book is title, “The True Story of The 3 Little Pigs,” by Jon Scieszka, and it was published in 1996. In this version the wolf is telling the story and he claims that he was not trying to kill or eat the pigs. He stated that he was sick at home with a terrible sneeze cooking his grandma a birthday cake. While preparing this cake, he realized he did not have any sugar. So, he went to his neighbor’s house, who was a pig, to borrow some sugar, and when he knocked on the door, the door fell in because it was made of straw. He claimed he did not go into the pig’s house, but he did call out to the pig, and that is where the lie about him saying, “little pig little pig let me in,” came from. He stated that when he went to leave, that is when a big sneeze came out and the whole house fell down- killing the first little pig. He said since the pig was already dead, he ate it. He moved on to the next pig’s house that was made out of sticks. He stated the same thing happened, and since that pig had died, too, he just went ahead and ate him. Then he went to the last pig’s house, that was made out of brick, to borrow some sugar. He stated he called out to the pig and the pig told him to go away and not to bother him again. The wolf claimed that when he was just about to leave, he let out another big sneeze and the pig stated that his grandma can sit on a pin which made him upset. The wolf stated when the police showed …show more content…

The last pig held the power because he lived in a brick house and the public saw him as innocent. I know the pig held the the power in the story because the pig went to jail at the end. The pig hold the power of manipulation. I believe this power was a benefit for the pig because he was able to get the town on his side to get the wolf arrested. The message this book is trying to send to children is be good to people because once you are viewed as a terrible person, no matter what you do, people will always see you in that light. I think another message the author is trying to send is there are always two sides to every story, so don’t believe everything you hear.
In the original story, the pigs are seen as cute little innocent pigs that are just trying to survive, and the wolf is seen as a evil animal that is just out to kill. In the newer version, the pigs are seen as little jerk, who did not even give the nice wolf a chance. He was only trying to bake a cake for his
