“‘Spirit!’ he cried, tight clutching at it's robe, ‘hear me! I am not the man I was. I will not be the man I must have been but for this intercourse. Why show me this if I am past all hope?’” (Dickens p. 110). This quote demonstrates how Ebenezer has changed during the story from beginning story to the end because of the visits of the three Christmas Spirits; by the end of the story Ebenezer isa changed man. In A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens, Ebenezer Scrooge, the protagonist, is clearly a dynamic character. In the beginning scrooge is known as a wealthy person who owns a business. On pg. 4, Scrooge appears to be working hard in his countinghouse on Christmas Eve ( Dickens p. 4); likewise he is still the same. Another trait of Ebenezer Scrooge that stayed the same is a role as an uncle to Fred who visits his at his countinghouse on Christmas Eve. Fred visits him to invite him to dinner. In the following quote: “‘ Don't be angry, Uncle. Come! Dine with us tomorrow’” (Dickens 7). Scrooge accepts his nephews invitation to the dinner, and he dines with them on Christmas. They are all shocked when Scrooge appears at Fred’s house. Scrooge reveals himself as Fred’s uncle. “‘ It’s I. Your Uncle Scrooge. I have come to dinner. Will you let me in, Fred?’” (Dickens p. 119). Scrooge is a dynamic character because he changes his personality from bitter to jovial , and scrooge has a christmas spirit. At the beginning scrooge is bitter ,and he wants nothing to do with Christmas. “‘ Nephew!’ returned the uncle sternly, ‘keep Christmas in your own way, and let me keep it in mine.’”
