In the book The Hunger Games, Suzanne Collins tells a story about a poor, hardworking, natural survivalist named Katniss Everdeen. Katniss lives in District Twelve, a poor and rundown community that is just one of the twelve districts run by the Capitol. During the reaping, a ceremony where a boy and a girl from each district get picked to fight in the Hunger Game, where there is only one survivor, Prim, Katniss’s sister, gets picked. Without hesitation, Katniss volunteers for her sister and is now teammates with Peeta, a baker's son who falls for Katniss at the worst of times. During the Hunger Games, she faces many obstacles physically and emotionally as she fights for her live. What never changes is her will to live, and her loyalty to those she loves proving she is a static character who did not undergo some transformation. We see this as Prim is selected as a tribute to play in seventy fourth annual hunger games, but Katniss shouts, “I volunteer!” I gasp “I volunteer as tribute.”(pg.22.) So Katniss volunteers at tribute and is now going to be fighting for her life. This shows that even though Katniss could be killed during the Hunger Games, She is so loyal and caring for her sister and family, it doesn’t matter what the risk is, but Katniss will do anything to keep her family safe.
