In the novel, The True Confessions of Charlotte Doyle, a 13-year-old girl named Charlotte Doyle is returning to her home in Rhode Island from her school in England. She is sailing on the Seahawk with two other families. Unfortunately, the two families couldn’t make it so Charlotte is going to be by herself on the ship. Well, that’s what she thinks. Some other people are going to be sailing with her. The captain on the ship, Captain Jaggery, starts off as a pretty nice guy. He is welcoming to Charlotte, and he is a gentlemen. But after Charlotte has been on the ship for a few days, she finds out that the captain is not as nice as he appeared. The captain works his crew very hard, and he has a case full of muskets! A stowaway named Cranick showed himself to the captain because he did not like him, and he needed to let the captain know that. Cranick’s plan didn’t go as smoothly as he would of hoped. Cranick ended up being shot by the captain! That proves that Captain Jaggery doesn’t mess around. Jaggery also beat Zachariah to death because the rest of the crew wouldn’t stand up to the captain.
