The Truth behind comics “...when you look at a photo or realistic drawing of a face, you see it as the face of another . But when you enter the world of the cartoon , you see yourself..( Scott Mccloud). This quote simply means when you look at a picture you see the idea behind it through someone else's eyes, but when you start to write and read about comics you see your point of view. I'm not really a big fan of comics ,but In my English class we had to read two different comics Understanding Comics by Scott Mccloud which is most likely about his adventure with comics and Through The Woods by Emily Carroll. Through the woods is different in many ways it's not like any other book or comic Carroll could send a meaningful message or idea through 8 to 15 pages maximum which is different from other comics too long and you might not get the idea at the end. In Understanding Comics Mccloud talked about his journey with comics through his childhood and how he got into comics. Mccloud defines comics from the beginning with details as if you don't know anything about comics he also mentioned that comics have hidden power which is colors associated with emotions. I could relate Mccloud's hidden power In Through The Woods “His Face All Red” is about the narrator and his brother who live in a small village that had an unknown beast which killed livestock and wrecked fences. The narrator said i'll hunt the beast everyone laughed until his brother said we'll hunt it together and when they found the beast his brother killed him while the narrator was hiding once the brother killed the beast the narrator killed his brother and threw him in a hole because everyone knows the brother would be the one who killed the beast and no one will appreciate the narrator. He also took a piece of his coat to show his wife that the beast ate him. That's what Carroll also worked on through her book without reading Understanding comics i wouldn't have the idea of the hidden power. which i could relate in Through the woods Carroll worked on proving the existence of the hidden power by providing it in every story throughout the book. The colors and panels that she used to connect everything together were fantastic to form a meaningful idea to her
