I believe that yes in this case the government overstepped the line of setting a trap for the unwary innocent. Jacobson was target because of the magazines he had previously order, however, it was still legal at that time. The government would send fake letters with the purpose of trapping someone. The government took two and one-half year, trying to persuade Jacobson into committing s crime. Jacobson would clearly display that he had no interest in underage males; he was only into males in their 20’s.
The United States Supreme Court defines entrapment in this case as using someone’s weakness against them. They try convincing Jacobson into committing a crime he never indented to do in the first place. I do agree with this definition, because
