In the book “The War of the Worlds” by H. G. Wells, Wells saw a cylinder-shaped heading toward Earth, and Ogilvy invited Wells to his laboratory to see what it was. They discovered something that was coming from Mars. People went to see what it was after Ogilvy said where it had landed, but a daunting creature jumped from inside and attacked the people surrounding it. Wells began running away from the creatures. He headed home to his startled wife and tried to calm her down from what was happening. A second cylinder was now heading towards Earth and as it fell, Wells took his wife to Leatherhead. The Martian fighting machines started attacking the ships, but they sent a warship and it hit two fighting machines. Wells and the curate couldn't leave the house they were safe in because the Martians had sent dangerous black smoke, so they had to wait till 5 o’clock to go to Sunbury. Fighting machines and the heat rays attacked Leatherhead as they tried to do everything they could to fight the creatures and stay protected from their harmful weapons. “Everything is going to be okay because we have found the weakness of the Martians and by everyone contributing we will have a chance to end them for good”, Wells told his wife. Wells tried to protect his wife by contributing to fighting the Martians. Wells told his wife, it was a long and tough battle for everyone. Despite the perseverance of the citizens, the Martians had an advantage over them and slowly, the humans were losing. Everyone started losing hope, as they saw their loved ones defeated. Wells witnessed all of this and knew he had to do something about it. Wells told himself, “No matter how dangerous, I am going to defeat these creatures and save planet Earth.” He pondered for a few seconds and had an incredible idea. His idea was risky, but was worth a shot. Wells intelligently thought of hijacking the heat ray, so he did and by hijacking it, he would use the Martian’s weapon against them. He struck the Martians with their heat ray and people started gaining more and more aspiration by the second. People began to stand on one’s own two feet and did what Wells was doing.
