In the novel, “The War of the Worlds,” by Herbert George Wells (written as H.G. Wells in the book), the setting takes place in England, where Martians had just invaded and attacked. The dynamic characters in the story include the narrator who has an interest observing Mars through his telescope and a great curiosity, the artilleryman, Ogilvy who is an astronomer, and the narrator’s brother. Little did many townspeople know that this cylinder would soon become their worst nightmare to them and many others. Only the narrator and his friend Ogilvy considered this as a sign from Mars, however, were still very skeptical about the idea of Martians arriving at Earth from Mars to attack. In the rising action, the cylinder opens and reveals a monstrous tentacled Martian. People are curious about the Martians visit to Earth but also are terrified by the monstrous look of the Martian. The Martians soon reveal their heat-ray and machinery and begin to vaporize and kill humans with their advanced technology. Human military desperately arrives to conquer the situation, but soon realize that they are no match for the Martians that are constantly arriving in their capsules. The narrator soon takes his wife to a neighboring town and hopes safety for each other. The Martians construct tripods, powerful three-legged robots that shoot at anything that they see moving and cause massive destruction around cities and towns. As the town in Ottershaw dramatically tenses up, the narrator is warned by the artilleryman that another cylinder has landed from Mars, causing the narrator to separate from her wife in order for his wife’s safety.
