Summary
The War That Saved My Life is a very exciting and interesting story about a girl named Ada. Ada has a clubfoot, a birth defect in which the foot is twisted out of shape or position. Ada’s mother is ashamed of her clubfoot, so she keeps Ada locked up in her room and barely feeds her.
On the other hand Jamie, Ada’s brother is free. All Ada wants to do is take care of her brother, but that's hard to do when she doesn't know how to read or write. Every time that Jamie does something wrong, Ada is sent to the cabinet. The cabinet under the sink that is filled with cockroaches.
Then, the war hits, and in a weird way saves Ada. Ada goes with her brother to England and the other evacuees, but not to outrun the Nazi. She goes to outrun her mother's cruelness. In England she is free. In England she sews, rides horses, and learns how to read and write. If she could only trust Susan Smith, the lady who takes Ada and Jamie in. Will Ada and Jamie survive or will they have to go back and live with their evil mother? …show more content…

Ada is a very strong character and is determined to accomplish things. Anyone that is interested in the Holocaust would really enjoy this book.
