Ada Smith is the protagonist of the book "The War that Saved my Life" One word I would use to describe Ada Smith is BRAVE! The book "The War that Saved my Life" is about a girl named Ada who was born with a clubfoot and had a very abusive mother. Ada's mother would always lock her up in dark rooms and abuse her, especially her clubfoot. However, Ada was brave and took action as soon as she was old enough to do things like running away from her mother, talking back to her mother, riding a horse with her clubfoot, and walking with her clubfoot risking it to even getting worse. Ada also has a little brother named Jamie. Jamie never experienced abuse from his mother and even got to go to school when Ada could not. Ada always talked back to her …show more content…

She planned to escape with Jamie. Jamie had other thoughts and opinions about his mom because of how their mother treats each child, he thinks his mom is polite, and that's why Jamie insisted on staying with his mother. Ada did not let this happen because Ada knew that her mother would start abusing Jamie. Ada convinced Jamie by telling him how unfair this was. Because Ada had a broken foot, her mother did not allow her to go outside, instead made her stay inside, clean the house, and take care of Jamie. Ada does all this work, and her mom still does not stop abusing her. Every day Ada would suffer in a dark room, hiding her broken foot under her other foot to protect it. Then she would clean up the blood on her dress to make Jamie think nothing happened. When Ada and Jamie went to London, they found this very polite lady named Miss Smith. Ada instantly got up one morning and started cleaning the house, making tea, because of the trauma she lived in the past. Eventually, they knew each other more, and when Miss Smith found out that Ada had clubfoot, Miss Smith took her to the doctor to take care of it, gave her healthier food, and wrapped her foot with new medical tape every day. Miss Smith cared about Jamie and Ada and did anything for them to make them feel safe and free. However, Ada did not listen to the doctors and tried walking each day; This was my favorite part of the book because it shows that she was brave, walking on her foot without crutches and risking it getting worse. She was also getting abused after she cleaned up the whole house. Another reason I like this part of the book is Miss Smith shows Ada that not
