Initially, post World War Two lead the world to major conflicts and changes in almost about every global region. Whether it was good changes or bad ones, it was still considered chaos at the time. So let’s begin with the year 1945, right after the Second World War ended. So basically this wasn’t just the end of a global war but it was also considered the end of a struggle between almost half a century worth of competition between the United States and Germany to beat Great Britain, so one of them be the great power of the world-system, basically a “fight for the throne” that started back in the late 1800s. As mentioned above, post WWII lead to the U.S and the Soviets to be the great powers of the world and later on after many altercations with one, another lead to the brutal Cold War between the two. So this lead to the main altercation, which was the Cold War. Where the “East,” which was represented by the Soviet Union and its allies called the Warsaw Pact. Their main focus was to destroy capitalism and spread Communism. On the other side, was the U.S. and their alliances which formed an organization called the North American Treaty Organization (NATO) and they were against this communist movement. The main priority of this was to hold the Soviet Union from spreading this communistic role to the smaller countries. Why? Because the U.S and NATO believed that it will cause a domino theory. This domino theory was believed to be, if the Soviets’ spread communism to one country it would lead to the neighboring nations to fall under communism too and eventually would have the whole world become communistic. So the U.S was spreading influence to these small countries (Warsaw pact) to dissociate themselves from the Soviets and they will support them.
